6X2X12 - Various Artists

Volar Records (2010)

Volar Records 6x2x12 compilation has been on my highly anticipated list for quite some time. Three Canadian bands (Calgary’s Sharp Ends, Montreal’s O’Voids, Vancouver’s Defektors) and three San Diego California bands (Ale Mania, Spirit Photography and The Beaters), each more or less sonically related. Starting things off are Vancouver’s Defektors, a band I have had a love/hate relationship with, in that I completely love their stuff on the Emergency Room comp and their singles, but found the LP to be lacking the spark that got me interested in the first place. Luckily, Defektors bring out some A-material here, unlike Montreal’s O’Voids, who phone in an instrumental that is entirely disappointing because I have obsessive relationships with everything else they’ve released. …

Stalins of Sound record pre-release show Friday, Oct. 22 @ the Whistle Stop

Unfortunately, the Stalins of Sound records won't be on hand until next week. Delays at the plant made it difficult to get them ready in time. We'll be hand-making and hand-numbering CDs with covers featuring the tracks from the 7", the purchase of which secures you one of the limited copies of the 7" next week, which I can either mail or hand-deliver. My apologies, but hopefully that works for folks.

I've known SOS frontman Hadi for a number of years since his days in the Dissimilars, and I'm proud to be releasing the debut 7" of his first solo songwriting effort.

The great San Pedro el Cortez from Tijuana will also be playing the show tomorrow night, October 22nd, at the Whistle Stop, and I'll have other Volar releases on hand.
